Trouble comes in threes...
One doomed love affair after another has made lovely Alex Walton swear off men. Now, she's determined to try something that maybe she can succeed at: a writing career. Little does she know that a chance meeting with a strikingly handsome stranger, a mysterious obelisk, and a lost kingdom will change her life forever. As Alex is about to discover, truth can be stranger—and far more dangerous—than fiction.
...but true love comes only once.
After three years inside a terrorist organization, Phillip Turman is trying to rebuild his life. His first assignment is to pick up Alex Walton, the maid of honor for his best friend's wedding, at the airport. His second is to deal with his instant attraction to her. But his third may be the toughest: to keep Alex out of danger as his past—and her need to know about it—threaten to destroy their future.

Opposites attract in this romantic suspense novel, originally published in 2001, by Stacey Abrams under her nom de plume, Selena Montgomery. Former secret agent Phillip Turman, aka Sphinx, is haunted by his time working for the shadowy organization known as the International Security Agency. Held captive for three years undercover and burned by a failed romance, Phillip has trouble trusting others, especially flighty women like Alex Walton, whom he's been tasked with protecting. As an artist, creativity and sensuality come naturally to Alex, but prudence and common sense do not rank high on her list of priorities, which is why she's inadvertently found herself transporting a dangerous object into the country, an object directly related to Phillip's painful past. Adventure, secrets, and burning desire keep the pages turning, while some nearly purple descriptions confirm Abrams' earlier writing style: "She was sex poured into silk and no man could not want." Recommended for readers curious about Abram's early works and those who enjoy lyrical prose with witty banter similar to the books of Eric Jerome Dickey and Terry McMillan.
