When a lady finds herself suddenly married to a British spy, she goes on a romantic adventure with her handsome new husband and a helpful ghost.

Christmas in the Highlands . . .

Not any dashing English lord's idea of a good time. But now that Lord Alexander Mallory has won a Scottish estate in a hand of cards, he is the unlikely laird of the wild, snowy Bonniebroch. Worse yet, the ancient pile of stones comes with a betrothal. To a fiery red-headed virgin. And a curse.

Alex will have his hands full honoring the first, seducing the second and breaking the third . . . all by Twelfth Night.

Praise for the writing of Mia Marlowe:

"Ghosts, a curse, secrets—a perfect mix." —Hannah Howell, New York Times–bestselling author of Highland Wedding

"Marlowe proves she has the 'touch' for strong heroines, wickedly sexy heroes, and love scenes so hot they singe the pages." —Jennifer Ashley, New York Times–bestselling author of The Secret of Bow Lane

"Glows with warmth and powerful emotion." —Publishers Weekly, starred review, for Once Upon a Plaid

Marlowe’s insubstantial latest historical is more of a snack than a meal. While on a mission in 1814 Scotland, English spy Alexander Mallory wins a barony, a cursed manor, and a fiancée, all in one card game. Lucinda MacOwen is beautiful, charming, and sweet, but Alexander is determined not to have his clandestine work hampered by a wife. The wedding happens anyway because they can’t keep their hands off each other, and soon Alexander decides marriage isn’t so bad after all. When Alexander and Lucinda arrive at Bonniebroch, they meet a ghostly steward and learn more about the curse. There’s no spark of originality to rescue the familiar elements. The saving grace to this plodding romance is Brodie, Lucinda’s ghost companion since childhood, who injects humor and common sense into her life. It’s not clear why Lucinda falls in love with Alexander, and the Christmas wedding is mostly a gimmick. Agent: Natasha Kern, Natasha Kern Literary Agency.
